Update: Happening Saturday 9th November from 10am at Veteran Hall. Kitchen available - please bring your refreshments of choice.
For those of you wanting to improve the privacy of your phones, tablets, laptops, and computers, and get away from using big tech’s expensive software, I would like to invite you to attend the inaugural "Digital Privacy and Free Open Source Software" user group meetup.
As a group we will decide which topics to pursue at each meeting based on our objectives.
The group will explore the following topics:-
- How to make your existing phones, laptops, and computers more private, including settings and user behaviour changes.
- Free open source apps to replace closed source proprietary ones; including apps for iOS, Android, MacOS, Windows, and Linux (of course).
- Avoid big tech cloud platforms.
- Replace MacOS or Windows with Linux - how to do this.
- De-google your Android phone, with live demonstrations and assistance.
- Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network).
- Avoid the nasty side of Artificial Intelligence.
Many of you already know that I have a long history of using free open source software for hosting websites as well as using the Linux operating system on desktop/laptop computers. I will be sharing this knowledge for anyone interested.
I am envisaging that this user group will meet every week at a time and day of week to suit as many as possible. This initial meetup will be on this Saturday morning at the Veteran Hall from 10:00 to 12:00. Please arrive a little early if possible.
The first gathering will be:-
When: Saturday the 9th November 2024.
Where: Veteran Hall - 598 Sandy Creek Road, Veteran Q 4570
We have the use of the kitchen with cups etc and I'll have a selection of teas and coffee sachets. The hall is on tank water. Bring any other refreshments that you want.
Note: This initial meeting is by donation to cover the hall hire cost. Future costing will be decided by the group that forms should we decide to continue weekly.
